ADRÈRE AMELLAL

ABOUT ADRÉRE AMELLAL

ADRÈRE AMELLAL is not from this century. Born of a vision to safeguard centuries-old building techniques from a time when people lived harmoniously with nature, this sustainable hotel located in Siwa is a window to another era. It’s unique design and tasteful detail was conceived by architect-designer India Mahdavi and conjured entirely out of salt, clay, palm and stone. It is a place where guests can truly connect with nature and where the purity of simplicity is luxurious.

Nature is the canvas upon which Adrère Amellal was designed with panoramic views across the turquoise salt-lake and a palm-shaded, spring-fed swimming pool. Secret passageways lead to invitingly cool rooms furnished with pieces hand-crafted from palms, while food comes fresh from the fertile oases. Free of electricity, this is a world of candlelight and a million glowing stars, where everything is imbued with the spirit of the desert. Guests often feel as if they have fallen into an ancient dream.

SERVICES & AMENITIES

An expanse of indigenous plants, shrubs, and trees irrigated by natural springs, are host to Adrére Amellal’s organic vegetable garden. Traditional dishes are cooked in honey-glazed clay pots. Daily handpicked herbs, vegetables and salads accompany our cuisine. A plethora of activities constitute an integral part of the experience of the Journey to Siwa. They may take the form of refreshing oneself in a basin fed by the Adrère Amellal’s Natural Spring; relaxing by the Salt Lake; exploring the sand dunes of the Great Sand Sea; and travelling back in time while walking through the Historic Fortress of Shali. Other activities include horseback riding as well as salt, mud, and massage treatments.
"A shelter of sand and salt modelled in the earth like a mineral labyrinth to better get lost between the celestial vault and the waves of the dunes."

Marie Claire, Jean-Pascal Billaud

"A step into another world. A world that is not dependent on electricity, air conditioning, or room service but instead on preserving the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
Adrère Amellal provides a breathtaking view of the salt lake or of the surrounding oasis every where you look. Doors and furniture are made from olivewood and at night, the only source of light are the numerous beeswax candles, lanterns and the desert sky."
